Gandhi considered God to be truth and truth to be God in spite of the variety of names that God has both in Hinduism and Islam. The Sanskrit word for truth is 'Sat' or that which exists. According to the Hindu philosophy, God alone exist and nothing else and the same is found in the quran. Love or Ahimsa is the only means to find 'Truth as God' and since 'means' and 'ends' are terms mutually substitutable, Gandhi says, 'God is love'.
